S1, E4: Help, Not Hype

Episode Summary

Marketing. The fine line between guiding someone to what they need… and letting them believe they found it all by themselves. It’s like sneaking vegetables into a kid’s mac and cheese—only this time, your “kid” is a fully grown adult, and you’re banking on them loving it without ever noticing. Do it right, and you’re a genius. Do it wrong… and, well, you’re just the broccoli guy.

From the Glossary

Today’s episode dives into the term “Marketing” (yes, really). The definition and translation below are taken from the official Schmarketing Glossary.

Definition: To paraphrase the great Seth Godin… Marketing is the generous act of helping someone solve a problem. Their problem. It’s about understanding their needs and offering the solutions that help them become who they seek to become.

Translation: The delicate art of making people believe you’re not selling them something—they’re just conveniently finding exactly what they need, with a little nudge from you.
