Time: The Nonrenewable Asset We Forget to Protect

Time is the most important resource we have. In this article, I share how a video reminded me of the urgency to make every moment count.

“Lost time is never found again.”

Benjamin Franklin

My business partner, Chris, posted this video of a bodybuilder. At first glance, I assumed it was some glitch in the algorithm. Surely, Chris hadn’t taken a sudden interest in protein shakes or the art of the flex. Still, out of some bizarre sense of curiosity, I clicked.

What I found wasn’t a lesson in gym technique or the benefits of creatine, but rather a blunt reminder about time—the one resource we never really think we’re running out of until we are. We talk about money, success, health, but time? We waste it like we’ve got some hidden vault of it stored away for a rainy day.

It’s funny. We plan our futures, schedule meetings, and block out days like we have some guarantee that it’s all going to happen. But what are we doing with the seconds between those neatly arranged calendar entries? Are we checking emails or scrolling through feeds, hoping the algorithm delivers another bodybuilder to jolt us back into reality?

This video wasn’t about muscles; it was about maximizing the moments we’ve got. The minutes we think are inconsequential, but in reality, make up the fabric of our lives. It reminded me that every second spent waiting, hesitating, or overthinking is a second we never get back. It’s not about chasing productivity 24/7, but being intentional—whether that’s with work, relationships, or even just deciding when to stop doomscrolling.

If there’s one thing this muscle-bound stranger taught me, it’s this: don’t just count your time—make your time count.
